Future Focused Learning

Purpose: To inform our Ministry of Education, that future focused learning has made a big difference to how we learn which has helped us to achieve in our learning.

WALT: write an annotated report about the learning that took place in my classroom and how the learning helped me to become a successful student.

Throughout the year we have been focusing on how to use the Chromebook and how to take care of the Chromebook. We had to get use to being very careful in the class. The first thing we had to learn about the Chromebook was the rules for the Chromebooks, in other words the do’s and don’ts. I have learnt that Chromebooks are Chromebooks are very fragile and some of my peers learnt that the hard way. I know that every class learns something different every single day of the year.

For me the Chromebook has been a new development of learning, it’s like I’m learning in a different way. All my learning is based around me. If I don’t have the information I have to search for it. If my teacher doesn't know the answer I have to look for an online expert.

In term 1, I had a bit of an idea on how to use the Chromebook, but really I didn't. The Chromebook was pretty complicated but cool because it was loaded with apps and my Chromebook was hooked-up to the ultra fast broadband. I can gather all my information from Google.

Reading is my favorite subject and I have made a lot of progress by using book-track, it’s a reading app where it has lots of stories, written in different genre and languages.

Term 2, in mathematics I had a lot of help from the site called ‘Sumdog.’ Sumdog is a mathematics game where you can choose a maths learning skill that you will like to learn about or ‘tweak-up’ on. Sumdog has ranks, avatars, other schools, competitions, and lots more fun adventurous stuff. Maths is now fun and I’m more focused.

This year e-learning has been my focus, but a bit of pen and paper doesn't mind me here and there. Everyone has to remember how learning without technology is still fun, however I have learnt more using the Chromebook in class. To be honest, I liked pen and paper better than technology because I like hard work, not work that I can search up and get answers with the ‘click’ of a finger, I like technical work.

In my previous years at Tautoro School, pen and paper was good to help me achieve in my learning, but this year technology is even better. Technology has helped me to improve in my learning and now I’m well above in my learning. I have learnt about apps that I can help me to improve my grades. When I'm older I want to work as a Communication of Technology Manager in ICT or a Games Developer. For me to be successful I will need to take Computing, ICT, Mathematics and Physics. I will also need to get my Degree or my Diploma in Information Technology and this future focused school will help me to achieve.

A Brief Analysis of my Reading.

Reading Analysis

WALT: make a snap shot of my reading ability using the National Standards learning progressions.

This week we videoed ourselves reading an extract from Bridge to Terabithia. We had to watch ourselves and notice what challenges we faced when reading at 13-14 years.  We had to choose 4 challenges that stood out the most. Then we had to think how we were going to make changes to our reading, by setting goals.

The Challenges I Face In Reading Are:

• To do a bit more personal reading.
• Reading Academic text.

The Goals That I Will Focus On In Term 4, So To Help Me Become A Better Reader Are:

• Read more difficult books or novels at home.
• Try read the Newspaper.
• Read and understand for tests.
